History of the University

Zaporizhzhya State Medical University is a modern, multi-disciplinary institution of higher education the fourth level of accreditation with the right of autonomous management.

His history begins with the Higher Women's Courses organized in Odessa in 1903. In 1959, the educational institution was transferred from Odessa to Zaporozhye and renamed the Zaporozhye Pharmaceutical Institute, and in 1968 it was transferred to Zaporozhye Medical Institute.

In 1994, the media received the status of the State Medical University of IV level of accreditation, the main tasks of which are to provide higher education services at the level of specialist, bachelor and master, as well as postgraduate training of specialists in internship, magistracy, postgraduate studies, doctoral studies and advanced training of doctors, pharmacists and pharmacists.

The educational institution implements the developed concept of development, according to which its infrastructure, organization of educational process, personnel potential, level of training of specialists, scientific and medical-diagnostic work, material base and international relations correspond to branch standards of higher education and requirements of the Regulation on national institution. By order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the university was recognized as the basis for the development and implementation of a credit-modular form of organization of the educational process based on the provisions of the Bologna Declaration. In this respect, the necessary educational and methodological support is provided and the first-year medical schools of the Faculties of Medicine No. 1 and No. 2 are trained.

In pursuance of the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 1 / 9-309 dated May 20, 2015, we announce that the Zaporizhzhya State Medical University provides educational services to applicants for higher education, strictly adhering to the norms of the current legislation.

According to the personnel, the university is one of the three best state medical educational institutions: as of January 1, 2018, the University employs 764 teachers, among them 125 doctors and professors and 475 associate professors and candidates of sciences. Among the researchers of the university is a member of the university. NAS of Ukraine, 46 members of the International Academies of Sciences and International Scientific Societies, seven Honored Scientists and Technicians of Ukraine, four laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine, five laureates of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a laureate of the President's Award, two laureates of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, six honored doctors Ukraine, five scholarship holders of the Cabinet of Ministers for young scientists, two scholarship holders of the Ukrainian President's scholarship for outstanding health officials, two distinguished educators, two honored coaches, a Honored Journalist of Ukraine, four masters of sports.

Zaporozhye State Medical University is considered among the best medical colleges of Ukraine offering MBBS, MD and numerous therapeutic courses. ZSMU is one of the most established advanced medical education organizations of Ukraine with the best level of accreditation among the medical universities in Ukraine. ZSMU began in the year 1903 for the Women Courses composed in Odessa. Later in 1959, the college was exchanged from Odessa to Zaporozhye and was renamed to Zaporozhye Pharmaceutical Institute. At that point following ten years in 1969 the name was changed to Zaporozhye Medical Institute. Lastly the organization got the status of Zaporozhye State Medical University in the year 1994.

The college began with a goal to give the best medical education to medical aspirants around the world. ZSMU has turned into a well-known focal point of preparation for MD, Masters of Pharmacy and Bachelors for undergraduates from Ukraine and outside nations.

Raining Fields

The system of training at Zaporozhye State Medical University includes the premedical, medical and post-diploma period of training. The premedical education is provided at the preparatory department for foreign citizens, which is the oldest one in the countries of CIS. It is the center of foreign students' training for further studies in other higher educational establishments of Ukraine. The training of foreign students and their specializations is carried out at two departments: medical and pharmaceutical. At the Medical faculty the training is provided in the following specialties:

• Medicine. Qualification: MD Physician. Training term - 10 years.
• Pediatrics. Qualification: Physician. Training term - 6 years.
• Laboratory diagnostics. Qualification: Laboratory assistant bachelor. Training term 4 years.
• Nursing. Qualification: Medical nurse bachelor. Training term 4 years. At the Pharmaceutical faculty students are trained for the specialties:
• Pharmacy. Qualification: Pharmacist. Training term 1 year.
• Technology of perfume-cosmetic preparations. Qualification: Pharmacist cosmetologist. Training term 5 years.

Medical Services

Medical obligatory insurance is $72 US.

Annually all students irrespective of their health have compulsory preventive check-ups and examinations and sick persons receive treatment both at the polyclinic and in the best clinics of the city.

The diagnostic complex is presented by a clinical biochemical laboratory, a functional diagnostic division, a room for endoscopic examination and X-ray room. The department of physiotherapy and rehabilitation fulfils an important work in the process of treatment. The consultative assistance is provided by the leading medical specialists of the Regional Clinical Hospital.

All students get a regular complex of preventive inoculations.

There is a medical unit on the territory of the University where students can get a qualified premedical and medical assistance in acute and urgent pathologic conditions. Qualified specialists - the University workers - give regular consultations here. Student sanatorium-dispensary is situated in the campus, too. Students can take physiotherapy treatment here .

Student Life

The training is carried on the specialties: General medicine, Pediatrics, Pharmacy. The new specialties Laboratory diagnostics and Technology of perfumery and cosmetic preparations will be opened in the nearest future.

The University has good sport facilities. There is a unique sport complex at the University. Not far from the academic buildings and student hostels there is a stadium with track and field athletic sectors,football field, sports grounds for handball, mini-football, volleyball, basketball.

Our University has three gyms, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a shooting-range, a chess and draught club, a fitness club. Student's football matches take place regularly at the university. The best teachers of the university are in charge of all clubs and sport sections.

Studies on physical training go in accordance with academic curriculum for the 1-6 courses. There is a students' club at the university. Different circles of amateur activities for those who like to play musical instruments, sing and dance work there. There is a team of "Jolly and Quick-witted Club" which take part in the Ukrainian games of "JQC". Every year the festivals "Student's Autumn", "Hello, We Are Looking For Talents", many concerts and festivals are held at the university.

Library with a book fund of over 560 thousand editions with three branches, reading rooms for 500 readers, necessary catalogs (including electronic ones) fully implements informational and methodological support of the educational process and research work. The active participation in the organization of teaching and methodological support for the training of doctors is carried out by the teachers of the departments. In 2012, they published 15 textbooks, 53 textbooks, 60 methodological developments and recommendations for students.
